NISSAN: Formula E’s Electrifying Finale – Power Stations on Wheels Set to Light Up London

The 2023 Formula E season culminates in a thrilling showdown in London, featuring Gen3 electric race cars that redefine speed and efficiency.

ROME, Italy – Nissan Formula E Team secured its first podium finish of the 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship at the Rome E-Prix, with Norman Nato securing an excellent second place in Round 14.

London, UK – The 2023 Formula E season is set to conclude in a blaze of glory this weekend in London, with the revolutionary Gen3 electric race cars, described as ‘power stations on wheels’, ready to deliver an electrifying spectacle.

These high-octane machines, capable of reaching speeds up to 200mph, have been the talk of the town since their pre-season testing last December. They have not only provided close racing but also more lead driver changes and ten times more overtakes than other top-flight forms of car motor sport.

The Gen3 race cars, capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds, are more than just speed demons. They are also influencing the future of road car design, with advancements in battery and powertrain technology on the track being translated into future electric road cars.

Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director and Team Principal at Nissan Formula E Team, said,

“Formula E is there to show how exciting electric cars are. The fine balance between speed and energy management guarantees really close racing, no margin for error and a really electrifying spectacle for fans.”

The Gen3 models, all new for this season, feature a host of upgrades focusing on lightweight, speed, and efficiency. They have shed 60kg in weight, increased power by 40% over the last generation version, and boosted top speed from 175mph to over 200mph.

A critical performance factor in Formula E is brake energy regeneration. The Gen3 cars have doubled the amount of energy recouped by the braking system to 40%, a significant leap from the original 2014 cars’ maximum 100KW regen to today’s 600KW.

The Nissan Formula E Team, also new for this season, has shown improved performance, exceptional skill, and raw speed. The team, featuring new drivers Sacha Fenestraz and Norman Nato, has secured fastest laps and a pole position so far this year. They are aiming for a victory in the British capital this weekend.

Fenestraz, 24, has already made his mark by securing two unique speed records in 2023, including the fastest lap in Formula E’s history and Formula E’s fastest ever lap of the world-famous Monaco race circuit.
